The Sky Brightens

Lyrics:

The sky brightens over the ledge in the morn
The fair lady’s young, and she’s not so care worn
Her grin is so clear, and her skin feels like dew
There’s a sun up above,
and the rays need no gloves
they can cut with the edge of their smiles

Our journey begins, and we tighten our grasps
on packs that we hoist on our backs with a clasp
We pick up our things, and we go with a sigh
Well at least there’s a sky,
and its blue reach runs high
and the road has no fork in it yet.

(Bridge)
Looking out windows, traintracks are fine
backwards and forwards run mine

Gaining advantage on those who run far
head on our shoulder and covered with tar

Minding our business, nose in our own
Looking for answers to questions on loan

Opening books that we close with a thud
sometimes these things are as clear as mud

We don’t belong here, but I don’t know where
if we can’t go where the lights brightly flare
We’re blinded and dizzy where beacons are glared
We can tear our eyes out and can wander about
with the shutters drawn on all our minds

Each verse is a form to contain our desires
We waste away looking for something unknown
Pining and whining never helped anyone
The other side’s better,
the greener the grass
The past is forgotten,
it’s ‘hind us at last

The other side’s better,
the greener the grass
The past is forgotten,
it’s ‘hind us at last
And we can’t find our way in the dark.
