A sea shanty I wrote in the style of the traditional 18th and 19th c. folk songs. Music and lyrics by Deborah Stokol, 2006. Performed by Deborah Stokol, 2007.

Farewell my Love

Farewell my love, my bonny lass
Farewell to paradise
To you will never be untrue,
But I’ll and won’t look twice.

Someday, perhaps I will return
Someday, I’ll make my way
But ’til then, will never be untrue
To my love so far away.

Some folks may come
And folks may go
Will try to make me turn
But to you will never be untrue
And for you, my love will burn.

Days may pass, and years will too
Before I may return
But I know one day we’ll meet again,
So patience I must learn.

And when that hour comes,
We’ll rejoice
We’ll have some cause for cheer
For then I will have come back home
To my love in paradise.
